Checking out eBooks / eAudiobooks for your eReader or mobile device:

This information covers the library's new download service which is offered through Missouri Libraries 2 Go and is powered by OverDrive . The process for checking out eBooks / eAudiobooks will be different depending on whether you are using a Kindle e-reader, a Nook or other supported e-reader, or a smart phone or tablet.  Checking out materials through the download service requires a valid Jefferson County Library card and PIN.

Lending and Availability

eBooks / eAudiobooks checked out from the Library are checked out for 7 or 14 days.  You can choose the length of time when you check out the item. You can check out up to 5 eBooks / eAudiobooks at a time. When an item expires, it will be automatically returned and will no longer be viewable on your computer or e-reader. (You may need to manually delete the e-book from your computer or device after it has expired.) 

As is the case with physical books, libraries own a limited number of copies of any given eBook / eAudiobook. If all copies of the item you're searching for have been checked out, the record will still display, and you can place a hold on it.  You can have up to 5 holds at a time.  You will be emailed when the item is available and have 4 days after the email is sent to check out your hold item.

Some major publishers are refusing to license their books for online lending by libraries.  Please visit the  eBooks for Libraries  website to learn more and to sign the petition for publishers to work with libraries to provide digital content to libraries, allow libraries to have access to books in all formats, and develop a business model that allows publishers and authors to thrive while ensuring that libraries can continue to serve readers and build collections for our communities. 

Supported eReaders

The Missouri Libraries 2 Go collection, which currently contains Adobe PDF, Adobe EPUB, and Kindle e-books, is supported by most e-readers and devices. 

The following devices work with the library's eBook collection:

• Amazon Kindle
• Barnes & Noble Nook
• Kobo
• Sony Reader
• iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch (with installation of app)

If you have an eReader or device not listed above, visit OverDrive's list of all compatible devices to find out whether your device will work with the Library's eBooks.

For some mobile devices, not all ebook downloading options may be displayed on the mobile version of the MOLIB2GO website.  For example, if you are browsing with an Android-powered device and wish to download Kindle books using the Kindle app, the MOLIB2GO mobile site may only allow you to browse or search Adobe EPUB and PDF copies of ebooks.
