Online Programming For All Libraries. Find out all about OPAL programs and how to get involved. OPAL is a collaborative effort by libraries of all types to provide cooperative web-based programming for library patrons and staff. These live, online events are held in an online auditorium where participants can interact via voice-over-IP, text chatting, and synchronized browsing. OPAL allows library patrons and staff to participate in online library programs using a web browser and Internet connection. Examples of OPAL public online programs include book discussion programs, interviews, special events, library training, memoir writing workshops, and virtual tours of special digital library collections. Most (but not all) OPAL events for the general public are held in the Auditorium or the Atrium. Please check the OPAL schedule for the location of online events by going to the "Programs & Events" page at http://www.opal-online.org/programs.htm. To participate in OPAL online events, computer users need to have access to a computer with a Web browser and Internet access. To hear events, speakers or headphones are required, and for voice communication, a microphone is necessary. A software plug-in for the web browser needs to be downloaded and installed prior to accessing an OPAL online event. Detailed system requirements and help information that explains step-by-step how to get started with OPAL is available on the "Help" page at http://www.opal-online.org/ivocalizetraining.htm. |
